Rabbit mites question

Hi
My indoor rabbit has just been diagnosed with Cheyletiella parasitovorax mites.

The vet gave us topical treatment but we can't figure out how she got them. There are no other animals in the house. She and her brother never go outside. They curl up on the carpet at night but don't use any bedding.

Does anyone have any idea where the mites would have come from? I'd like to prevent them in the future!
